One of the aims of the Legion is to perpetuate the memory of those who died in the service of their country. The public act of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday each year when poppy wreaths are laid on war graves and memorials throughout Scotland is a gesture the Legion has made uniquely its own.

 

RBLS Dingwall Branch – Remembrance Sunday/Scottish Poppy Appeal 2008

On Sunday 9th  November 2008 RBLS Dingwall led an excellent turnout of Ex-Service Men and Women; Members of the RBLS Dingwall and Members of the Public to commemorate the sacrifice made by Service Personnel during the two World Wars and other Wars up to the present day.

The RBLS Dingwall Pipe Band led the march to the War Memorial, followed by the RBLS Standard Bearers and Members of the Legion and the Public. Representatives from the Police; the Fire Brigade; the Red Cross; WRVS; the Army Cadets; the ATC and a large number of local Scouts Cubs Guides and Brownies walked at the rear of the Parade.

In addition to the RBLS standards the Royal Engineers; the Inverness Branch; the Fire Service; the ATC and the Girl Guides, a new colour donated by RBLS Dingwall Branch, carried their standards this year.

Poppy Wreaths were laid at the War Memorial by various local organisations including the Police and Fire Services the ATC ; the Army Cadets; the Red Cross;

the WRVS;  the Community Council; the Dingwall Scouts and Brownies and the Seaforth Highlanders.

Janet Bowen, Lord Lieutenant of Ross & Cromarty & Skye; Charles Kennedy MP; John F Munro MSP; Dave Thompson MSP; the RBLS Dingwall Branch; the Womens Section RBLS Dingwall and the Local Councillors also laid wreaths.

The Remembrance Service was led by Rev Russel Smith, the Tryst read out by the Parade Commander R J MacRae and the 2 Minute Silence observed. The Lord Lieutenant for Ross & Cromarty took the Salute at the War Memorial.

The Parade then moved onto the Seaforth Memorial; the Cambrai Memorial and to the Normandy Veteran Cairn before returning to the RBLS Dingwall Branch/Club.

The RBLS Dingwall Branch raised the excellent total of £8079.85 through this year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal, an all time best.
